Dolphin Cruise

And yes! The Dolphin Cruise day has arrived!

Welcome to Amvrakikos Gulf – Join us to discover one of Europe’s most unique ecosystems and admire the wonderful dolphins, the sea turtles caretta – caretta and the vast gathering of bird species, within their natural habitat. Get familiar with a magic world where human presence has co-existed with nature for centuries. Coastal towns, castles, legends fusing with traditions complement the mosaic of history … as time freezes on a journey so delightful for all senses!

As soon as our boat leaves from the port of Preveza our cruise starts in the wetland of Amvrakikos Gulf, an ecosystem declared as a National Park and protected by international conditions.

In a landscape of unique beauty and tranquility, the observation of the magnificent bottlenose dolphins is a unique experience. These wonderful creatures that are considered as one of the largest populations of the Mediterranean, often approach the boat with a playful mood. However, it’s not just the dolphins that we’ll come across.

During the summer months it is possible for us to see the Caretta caretta turtles, appearing slightly off the surface of the water to take a curious peek before returning to the bottom of the sea. In our cruise we will come across islands with various species of birds residing and laying eggs on them, such as silver pelicans, cormorants, herons, many of which are protected species.

We will also talk about fishing methods while fishing using rods in some of the fishing spots of the gulf. We will drop our anchor next to a small yet beautiful island of the bay, called Kefalos, where we will swim, search for shells and observe the surrounding waters using snorkels and masks – Not necessary for everyone -.

And when you finish swimming, freshly caught fish, homemade pies and local dishes will be waiting for you on the boat, along with cool beers or local tsipouro and wine.

Overnight at Dioni Boutique Hotel

Ziros Lake

Kayak, SUP, Hiking in Ziros Lake and Kokkinos Pilos

One of the most beautiful challenges of the area of Preveza is to experience the alpine landscape of Ziros Lake, an ideal destination for lovers of hiking, cycling, rowing, and SUP. A hidden treasure in a dense pine forest with high oaks, eucalyptus, and holly.

The mysticism of nature in all its grandeur is revealed from wherever you may be, facing the surface of the lake. A huge natural mirror that reflects on the flat surface of the lakeside forest, the sunken trees, the opposite rocky shores, and the sky.

Both its perimeter, alternating from the flat ground to a rocky and steep shore uphill and crossing slopes with enormous reddish rocks and with an excellent view of the lake, as well as the path that moves away from the lake and enters a golden-yellow forest with greenish Mountain slopes and red ravines until it reaches the unique geological phenomenon of the Red Clay (Terra Rossa) is impressive.

The magic of the landscape is infinitely multiplied when you find yourself paddled with a kayak or sup in the lake as you move away from the shore and feel the exhilarating pulse from the bottom and its tranquility to sensuously hypnotize you.

On top of an elevated forest, stretch dominates the cafe-restaurant Lake Ziros where we can enjoy good food, coffee, relaxing music and immense views.

You are responsible for obtaining and paying for all visas and entry documents, for meeting all health and other
requirements, and for any documents required by the laws, regulations, orders, and/or requirements of the countries you will visit. Greece Adventure Trips is not responsible for providing you with specific visa and passport information or documentation, and Greece Adventure Trips cannot accept liability for any passenger refused entry onto any transport or into any country due to failure of the passenger to carry correct documentation. All passengers traveling
internationally are required to have a passport. Some countries require passports to be valid for at least six (6) months beyond the conclusion of your trip; some require that you have a minimum of three blank pages left in your passports.
It is your responsibility to verify all visa and passport requirements.

What you need to bring depends on the trip you have chosen and the countries or regions you are planning to visit during your entire vacation. We suggest that you pack as lightly as possible.

Most travellers carry a small to medium size backpack or rolling bag or suitcase.

You will also need a day pack or bag to carry water, cameras and other electronics like iPods and mobile phones.

Every traveller is different and therefore spending money requirements will vary. Some travellers may drink more than others, while other travellers like to purchase more souvenirs. Consider your likely spending habits when budgeting for drinks, shopping and tipping.

We have provided some specific recommendations below to assist you to plan your budget and manage your money while on holiday.

During your holiday, you will use the Sri Lankan Rupee as local currencies. Because currency exchange rates in South East Asia do fluctuate quite frequently, we ask that you refer to the following website for the most up to date information on exchange rates: www.xe.com

The best way to access local currency in Sri Lanka is from an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) with a debit card. ATMs are readily available throughout South East Asia and will usually accept cards from both the Visa and MasterCard international networks. If possible, travel with both a Visa and a MasterCard to provide backup in case of loss or access problems with one card. Please note, your bank will usually charge a fee for overseas withdrawals.

Some Rupee is recommended for those occasions when ATMs are not accessible such as a number of islands and remote provinces. You should bring some cash with you for emergency situations (please refer to our trip dossier) but not a substantial amount as carrying only cash is high risk. The ideal mix is two or more ATM card/s with some cash as back-up.

Credit cards are accepted at some upmarket hotels and restaurants, and some larger stores if shopping for big items. They are of no use at smaller establishments.

Cash advances with your credit card are also possible at some banks. However, the process is time-consuming and tends to attract high fees.

Traveller’s cheques can be tricky, time-consuming and expensive to exchange. While we do not recommend that you bring them as your primary source of funds, you may choose to bring one or two cheques in case of emergency. Thomas Cook or American Express travellers’ cheques in US currency are the easiest to exchange.

Depending on the service, it is customary in Asia to tip service providers, such as waiters, approximately 10%. Though not compulsory, tipping is expected and shows an expression of satisfaction with the people who have assisted you on your holiday. Although it may not be customary to you, it is of considerable significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels. There are several times during the trip where there is an opportunity to tip the local guides or drivers we use. Recommendations for tipping drivers and local guides range from $1.5-$3.5 USD per person, per day, depending on the quality and length of the service. If unsure, ask your local Green Cultural Travel representative.

Please note inoculations may be required for the country visited. It is your responsibility to consult with your travel doctor for up to date medical travel information well before departure.

We recommend that you carry a small First Aid kit, hand sanitizers or antibacterial wipes, and any personal medical supplies you might require.

For your convenience, we have also partnered (premium partner) with OnVacationDoctor, a professional website that includes the contact details of all English-speaking doctors no matter where in the world you are traveling. We help you by providing English-speaking doctors to call or to schedule an immediate appointment with should you ever have to. We provide peace of mind by connecting you directly with someone who can help!

As a minimum, an average level of fitness and mobility is required to undertake our easiest programs. Travellers must be able to walk without the aid of another person, climb 3-4 flights of stairs, step on and off small boats, and carry their personal luggage. Travellers with a pre-existing medical condition are required to complete a short medical questionnaire, which must be signed by their physician. These requirements ensure that travellers have the necessary fitness and mobility to complete their chosen trip comfortably. While our

Representatives work hard to ensure all our traveller’s needs are catered for, it is not their responsibility to help individuals who cannot complete the day’s activities unaided. Please refer to the physical ratings in this Trip Details document for more information.

When exploring on your own carry only the necessary minimum with you and use a well-hidden money belt for cash and credit cards. The majority of your valuables, including your passport, should be left in the hotel safe. You can organise use of the safe at the reception of your accommodation. There is no need to get paranoid, just be cautious.

If you do have emergency medical coverage or have purchased Travel Insurance with another company for this trip, please forward proof of the policy to us prior to final payment. Please see our Travel Insurance web page (https: //www.greeceadventuretrips.com/gat-travel_insurance.html) for details. In the event you find it necessary to cancel prior to or during a trip due to injury, personal or family illness or emergencies, or other covered reasons; travel insurance generally reimburses non-refundable costs including the tour and airfare. Additional coverage may include trip interruption, missed connections, lost or delayed baggage, emergency medical transportation, necessary medical care if sick or injured, and emergency evacuation. Whichever company you choose, be sure to confirm the specifics directly with the company. Greece Adventure Trips does not assume any responsibility for the information about the insurance companies or their policies. Please be advised that some types of coverage may require purchase within 24 hours of your initial trip deposit. Although trip “cancellation” insurance is not required, it is strongly recommended.Green Cultural Travel – Community Programs

Greece’s main carriers are Olympic Air and Aegean Airlines. Other airlines operating flights from the UK include British Airways, easyJet and Ryanair. The cost of flights to Greece peaks in July and August when most Europeans take their holidays. Throughout the rest of the year prices vary according to demand.Greece’s motorway network has been significantly upgraded over the past decade or so. Motorways and some bridges incur a toll. In rural areas, and especially on the islands, many roads are narrow, twisty and poorly surfaced. Most major international car hire firms operate throughout Greece, with offices at airports, ferry ports and in all major cities. The legal age for hiring a car is 21. All Greece’s main cities and many small destinations too are connected by an extensive network of long-distance buses, which almost always prove more efficient than the train. Major routes include Athens-Thessaloniki and Athens-Patras.

Greek food tends to be very simple, rarely involving sauces but with full use of local seasonal produce, olive oil and charcoal grills – just as people have been eating in outlying villages for many centuries. However, Athens and some of the more fashionable islands such as Santorini and Mykonos have seen the arrival of fusion cuisine and so-called modern taverna fare (involving lighter dishes with more subtle flavours and artistic presentation).Tap water is drinkable in Athens and other cities – in fact, in areas where the local water is good, bars and restaurants are obliged by law to provide customers with glasses or jugs of tap water free of charge upon request. However, visitors should be wary of drinking tap water in remote areas, and on many islands – even if the locals do it. Bottled water is widely available and prices are strictly controlled on the mainland and islands. Milk is pasteurised and dairy products are safe for consumption. Local meat, poultry, seafood, fruit, and vegetables are considered safe to eat.Tipping waiters in bars and restaurants is the usual, 12% to 15% is the norm.

Wi-Fi is widely available in Greece and in most establishments, it is free to customers. Internet cafes in the cities and on the main islands of Crete, Kos, Mykonos, and Rhodes, also offer Internet access.

In Greece the power sockets are of type C and F. Type C: also known as the standard ‘Euro’ plug. This socket also works with plug E and plug F. Type F: also known as “Schuko”. This socket also works with plug C and plug E. If your appliance’s plug doesn’t match the shape of these sockets, you will need a travel plug adapter in order to plug inThe standard voltage is 230 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz. If your appliance isn’t compatible with 220-240 volts, a voltage converter will be necessary.
