Bronze and Silversmith’s Workshop > Morning Tea > Oudong Temple > Lunch > Buddhist Centre

Oudong, located in Kampong Speu Province, is a small town 40km northwest of Phnom Penh. It is called “Oudong Meanchey”. “Oudong”, meaning “noble” or “excellent”, and “Meanchey”, meaning “victory”.
It served as the capital of Cambodia under several sovereigns, between 1618 and 1866. It is now a place of pilgrimage for Cambodians, and has many local visitors during religious celebrations.
You must have a suitable level of fitness to undertake this tour, as to make the most of it you need to climb to the summit of a hill to visit the newest addition to Phnom Oudong, which is a modern temple home to a beautiful collection of Buddhist relics, which was previously housed in Phnom Penh.
The attraction here is not just the stunning temples and surrounding stupa’s, but also the breathtaking view over the surround country side. You can also interact with and feed the monkeys who live in large numbers here.

Silver and Bronze Artisans

Departing from your hotel or your selected pick-up point we follow the Tonle Sap through the bustling streets of Phnom Penh. As we leave the city behind you will see the changing landscapes and we first visit local artisans working in silver and bronze. Then we take time to sample a local snack for morning tea.

Oudong Temple

Arriving at the base of hill you are sure to see monkeys wandering around and climbing into the vegetation. Then take the climb to the temples and stupa’s and we know you will love the views over the surrounding countryside. These beautifully decorated temples also house a stunning collection of Buddhist artifacts and artworks. You will also see the monks going about their daily lives who are charged with looking after this holy place.

After your descent, a traditional Cambodian lunch will be served at the bottom of the hill, and in a typical piles hut and then in local style relax for a while in a hammock,

Buddhist Centre

Then, it is a short drive to a Buddhist centre, known as “Putmondul”. Here, you will see monks and nuns, as well as many locals seeking good luck through their offerings. It is home to a magnificent reclining Buddha, and many fine paintings depicting the history of this religion.

Depending on the service, it is customary in Asia to tip service providers, such as waiters, approximately 10%. Though not compulsory, tipping is expected and shows an expression of satisfaction with the people who have assisted you on your holiday. Although it may not be customary to you, it is of considerable significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels. There are several times during the trip where there is an opportunity to tip the local guides or drivers we use. Recommendations for tipping drivers and local guides range from $1.5-$3.5 USD per person, per day, depending on the quality and length of the service. If unsure, ask your local Green Cultural Travel representative.

When selecting your Tour or Activity please read the brochure and itinerary carefully to assess your ability to cope with the requirements of your selected product.

Safety and Security

We strongly recommend the use of a neck wallet or money belt for keeping your valuables safe. Leave your expensive jewellery at home. You won’t need it while travelling. Many of the hotels you stay at have safety deposit boxes, which is the most secure way of storing your valuables while on tour.

Protests and Demonstrations- Protests and demonstrations, even those that are well intended, have the potential to turn violent with no warning. Counter protests can also turn violent. Action by security forces to disperse demonstrators and protesters may occur at any time. If you are in an area where demonstrators or protesters are gathering, avoid the temptation of staying for a photo opportunity and leave the area immediately.

Medical Form

As a minimum, an average level of fitness and mobility is required to undertake our easiest programs. Travellers must be able to walk without the aid of another person, climb 3-4 flights of stairs, step on and off small boats, and carry their personal luggage.
